About JL

Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival is a unique musical and social event for lovers of all aspects of folk music from Bluegrass to World music, from Irish jigs to Country Rock, from Blues to Renaissance.

Spring Festival

This annual international festival usually takes place in May. Beginning on Thursday evening and continuing until late afternoon on Saturday, it includes activities for all the family on six different stages or activity centers. Thursday is a more intimate evening so people can chill out after a week's work, putting up tents etc. On Friday from morning till the early hours and on Saturday from morning till 17:00 one can enjoy a marathon of concerts and activities on a variety of stages with jam sessions of all types in every possible corner. Festival tickets include entrance to all concerts, sessions, dance and music workshops, story tent, yoga, tai chi, swimming, crafts fair, parking and free camping. The majority of the activities and the Main Stage concerts are held outside. Patrons are advised to bring blankets or low chairs for outdoor activities.

Onsite rooms are available, but tend to get filled up by February, so it is wise to book early. A wide choice of B&B accommodation is available in the area. Ticket sales begin in March and a full schedule of the activities is available in April.

Winter Festival

More intimate than the Spring Festival, this relatively new event, held for the first time in 2004, is a cozy Hotel Weekend of great live music and Jacob's Ladder style fun held at Nof Ginosar in December. Most activities take place inside the main building and sports hall. The Winter Weekend includes concerts, sessions, singing, dancing, a variety of workshops, children's activities and Crafts Fair.
A full schedule is available in October. Click here for more info...

The Organizers

Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival and Winter Weekend are organized by Yehudit and Menachem Vinegrad.

Menachem presents a weekly radio program of World Music on Radio Upper Galilee 105.3 FM.
He is the Main Stage MC at both JL events and is responsible for finances and contacts with overseas musicians. He also coordinates Sound, Security, camping and concert facilities.

Yehudit devotes most of her time to running the two festivals. She is responsible for contacts with artists and performers in Israel, managing the festival office, planning the program and publicity and designing the venue layout. She also coordinates manpower and all connections with the venue and its staff.

All major decisions are made by Yehudit and Menachem when they can find time to sit down together between their various roles as English teachers, festival organizers, parents and grandparents. This happens on car journeys and occasionally when they are at home. Fortunately, they live in the same house!
